We’re talking first kisses for this round of First Times. I love writing kisses…especially that first one. I think it’s the excitement, the nerves, taking that very first step into physical intimacy… le sigh. i just love them.
I’m going to share the first kiss from Coming Home.
His sister’s best friend. A part of the family. The love of his life?
Coming home for Gabe Monroe isn’t a joyous occasion. He returns to say goodbye to his father, and he stays to honor the man’s final request—take care of the family. He’s completely unprepared for the attraction he feels for his sister’s best friend and blames his grief when he gives into it. Only he can’t blame grief the second time…or the third…or…
Kate Pearson thought she was over her childhood crush on Gabe, but his return has all those feelings rushing back. Add in the toe-curling, mind-blowing sex…and Kate is well on her way beyond just a crush. Despite his constant meddling and insistence that they need to keep things platonic, Gabe makes her tremble with desire and yearn for forever with him.
Even as Gabe begins to accept their blossoming relationship, Kate’s past casts a shadow over their future as they realize he isn’t the only one who’s come home.Trying to protect the woman he’s coming to love, Gabe risks losing everything. Everything he didn’t know he wanted but, now, doesn’t know if he can live without.
Kate frowned. “You’re upset they didn’t tell you sooner.”
“That my dad was dying? Yeah, you could say that.” The anger he’d been fighting against surfaced and overwhelmed him.
“It was what he wanted,” she said quietly. “He didn’t want to worry you, and there wasn’t anything you could do.”
“I could have been here.” He hit the counter with his fist, and his beer danced along the surface. “I could have been…prepared.”
Kate set her bottle next to his and moved closer, sympathy clear in her hazel eyes. He inhaled deeply, and her scent—clean, soapy, simple—filled his senses.
“The rest of them were able to be here for him, with him, and were able to come to terms with what was going on. I, on the other hand, get a phone call, four days ago, informing me I should come home immediately because he might not make it through the night.” He bit off a curse when his voice cracked.
“I’m sorry.” She stepped forward until they touched and stretched up to hook her arms around his neck. “I’m so, so sorry.”
Gabe blew out a breath and, for the first time in days, let his guard drop just to enjoy the embrace. He closed his eyes and wrapped his arms around her waist, resting his hands on her lower back.
Kate moved her hands up, her fingers threading through his hair. Gabe shuddered at the teasing touch and tightened his hold on her. She tilted her head back and stared at him. Even as his brain screamed what the hell, he found himself leaning forward and pressing his lips to hers. Kate’s breath escaped in a small sigh, and she lifted up on her toes. Her mouth softened beneath his, and his cock stirred as her tongue snuck out and swiped against his lower lip.
He pulled back slightly, and Kate looked at him through lid-heavy eyes. “God, Kate, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have—”
She shook her head, fisted her hands in his hair, and pulled him down. This was no tentative meeting of the mouths. It was a hard, gasping, violent mating. Gabe let go of everything he’d been holding on to and just let himself feel. Fuck, he just wanted to lose himself in her.
