Wednesday Randomness: Pet Peeves

Happy Wednesday! This week, we welcome another author to the Wednesday Randomness. One of my all time favorite people… Kris Norris. I adore her and am so happy she’s jumping into this with us. Welcome, my dear!

When we decided to write on pet peeves this week, I was excited, thinking that I could knock this post out in no time. Wrong. I have stared at this blank page for longer than I care to share. But, without further ado, here is my attempt at listing my pet peeves.

1. Not following through – I think I’m pretty understanding. I get when life gets in the way and shit happens. Do I ever! But when it comes to people who promise and promise and never ever follow through on those promises? That burns my ass.

I’m not saying I don’t drop the ball sometimes. I totally do. I’ve gotten bogged down and been late on things more times than I care to remember. Or something has happened and I can’t do what I thought I could. BUT, I own it, I think. I explain and apologize and do what I can to make up for it (if it’s possible.) But what I’m talking about, what really pisses me off, is when this is the norm and the person doesn’t even seem to think there is a problem. There is no apologies, no acknowledgement that maybe their lack of following through has just fudged up my plans. 🙁

2. Self entitled people – News flash: The world doesn’t owe you anything, it’s not always someone else’s fault, the world doesn’t revolve around you.

This is a big one for me, because I just want to scream at people to grow the frick up and OWN their lives – the good, the bad, and all the freaking messed up shit. While how we grow up and who is in our lives definitely influence our decisions, placing the blame on those things for everything that goes wrong in our lives…it gets old.

And the thought that somehow you deserve more or better that the rest of us? Well, I’m not going to start ranting on that one because I wouldn’t get anything else done today. (And of course, I’m using “you” to generally address people who operate under these beliefs – not addressing anyone reading this blog specifically!)

3. Being unclear about expectations – It drives me up the wall when expectations aren’t clear. When suddenly I’m bearing the brunt of someone’s annoyance or anger because I didn’t do something “right”. If you want me to do something, and you want it done in a specific way, please, please, PLEASE tell me that upfront, for the love all things glorious!

4. Hypocrisy – This can come in many forms. Many, many forms. One I’ve come across recently that just makes me…not so much angry, but really, really sad…is I’ve heard people talk about someone who is going through a rough time. This person isn’t a nice person. He’s actually a pretty cruel, hateful person, truth be told. But when people I know found out about the horrible stuff happening in this person’s life, they went off on hate-filled rants about how this person deserved it and they hope he suffered, and so on. Now, don’t get me wrong, I will admit to having a thought or two about Karma and it biting someone in the ass. I did. BUT answering hate with hate? When has that ever turned out well?

I’m by no means perfect, and I’ve been guilty of pretty much everything on the above list at one point in my life.  I just hope I recognize it when it happens and do a one-eighty, yeah?

So those were biggies. There are other, more minor, things that drive me batty. These are pretty self explanatory.
1. People who don’t use their blinker when changing lanes or turning.
2. Chewing with mouth open.
3. Not separating laundry the right way (ie. my way)
4. Using the last of the toilet paper and not replacing the roll.
5. Asking questions during movies/tv shows (“Who’s that?” “Why she do that?” “Is he going to die?” Just shut up and watch!)
6. Double negatives.
7. Guys who say they are “babysitting” their own kids.
8. Not using a bath mat when taking a shower or bothering to wipe up the flood of water left behind, resulting in my socks getting soaked when I go to take my morning pee.
9. Leaving hair in the sink after shaving or trimming bangs or whatever.
10. Swearing in public – Note: I can curse up a blue streak and drop f-bombs like nobody’s business, but I try so hard to be aware of my surroundings. When I’m out with my kids – especially when they were little-little – it would drive me up the wall when people would swear wily-nily around them. Because I don’t want to have to explain why my cute little four year old just casually called her grandma a bitch, thank you very much.

I’m going to end there, because now that I’ve started, I could just keep on going. But I won’t.

So what are your pet peeves? Comment away, friends!

What drives the other girls up the wall? Go forth and find out!

Wednesday Randomness: I Can’t Live Without…

Happy Wednesday! We have a couple of ladies joining Bron, Leigh and me on our Wednesday Randomness posts. Welcome Kellie and Tess! So glad you’re here. 😀

So this week, we decide to list five things we can’t live without. So here it goes…

1. Family & Friends – To be honest, I wasn’t going to mention people at all, and keep this limited solely to things. Mostly because I have a lot of wonderful people in my life and to list them all would be impossible someone would get left out inadvertently (because I have a sieve for a brain), and when I finally realized the error, I’d feel horrible and guilty and wallow in it.

That being said, I just had to list this first, keeping it general and not naming names. Why did I have to list this? Well, I’ve been reminded over and over again lately just how awesome the people around me are. I have tremendous support from those in my life. I’m so lucky I can hardly believe it. Specifically, my husband is just…well, let’s just say I don’t know what I’d do without him. (And I didn’t say his name so I’m sticking with my no naming names rule!) He’s been traveling a lot for work lately and this results in a couple things. First, I’m so grateful for the help and support from family and friends as I single parent it with four kids. Second, even when he’s a half a world away, he’s the only one that can really calm my neurotic ass down. And he does it, without hesitation, even though he’s off working insane hours in a foreign country. For example, I was stressing about something last night, just worked up, and once I’d talked to him – a handful of words while he was in between meetings – and I was able to relax and actually sleep.

So yeah, I’m incredibly blessed with the people who are in my life and I damned well know it!

2. Caffeine – I’m not particularly picky here. Coffee or pop, either will do. I need the caffeine. I’ve always had trouble sleeping, so as a woman who has a lot to do, I need to be able to function. Caffeine is my crutch, plain and simple. I realize that this is a bad cycle because I consume huge amounts of caffeine, which then affects my sleep, then I need more caffeine, and so on and so on. It’s a problem, and  I should probably cut back. Really really should. And I hope someday I can. But today is not that day. *glug glug*

3. My phone – Yeah, I’d be lost without it. I use it ALL the time. To check email and listen to music, My to do lists are all on there. I don’t even wear a watch; my phone IS my watch. And it’s how I’m available all the time for my kids. With three teenagers and one preteen, our schedule are insane. So checking in is done by text or phone call a lot of the times. Also, when I forget to pick up a kid (which has happened an embarrassing number of times) because I’m running with another or something, I can be contacted immediately. And speaking off, the regularly scheduled pick ups or drop offs? All scheduled in my phone to ding with reminders. Yeah, definitely be lost without my phone.

4. Internet – Seems silly but OMG, when my internet was down I thought I was going to go insane. INSANE!! Everything I do is online, almost! My family – mom, dad, siblings – live hundreds of miles away. Most of my friends live hundreds of miles away (AND I met most of them…yep, you guessed it, ONLINE). And yes, I can – and do – call and talk to them, but honestly the internet is what keeps us connected. Whether it’s email, IM, playing Words with Friends with my mom and sister, FaceTiming or Skyping with the hubby when he’s out of town, or using it for work/research, the internet is definitely my friend and a HUGE part of my every day life. It keeps me connected.

5. Tumblr – Okay, if forced to, like during a zombie apocalypse, of course I could live without Tumblr. But, guys, this is my happy place, I’m not ashamed to say. I can fangirl like crazy and just not think about stuff. It’s total escape for me, and sometimes, I just need that.

Check out what the other girlies said they couldn’t live without!

Wednesday Randomness: Shuffle, Shuffle, Shuffle

Happy Wednesday!

This week Bron, Leigh, and I are writing about music. We are putting our ipods/mp3 players on shuffle and sharing the first 10 songs that pop up. I was quite happy with this (easy!) topic since this week is CRAZY busy.

So here we go…*shuffle* (Song – Artist – Album)

1. On the Rise – Neil Patrick Harris & Felicia Day – Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Soundtrack Um, nothing much to say here, but I love Dr. Horrible? And Felicia Day. And freaking NPH. The songs on this album are often belted out around chez Jarman. Not just by me.

2. White Blank Page – Mumford & Sons- Sigh No More Oh, Mumford & Sons. I adore them, I adore this album. This is one of my go to albums for pretty much anything…when I’m writing, when I’m cleaning, when I’m just lazing about.

3. Fucking Perfect – P!nk – Greatest Hits…So Far This song… I won’t lie; I like P!nk’s music. But this song… The video makes me cry. Every time. (It could be triggering some ppl. Specifically, it had images of self-harm, so don’t play if this is an issue for you. Just wanted to say that upfront). This song is also on my playlist for a project I just started working on. Fits my heroine and her journey perfectly, I think. So it’s getting a lot of play time.

4. Towers Fall Into the Sea – Clocks & Clouds – Life Beyond Reason Another go to album/artists for me. The cellist used to be my kids’ orchestra teacher. Clocks & Clouds is amazing. Wonderful writing music.

5. We R Who We R – Ke$ha – Cannibal Well apparently, if the artist has a symbol in their name they are on my list. Do not judge me people. This is a great song to work out to. And for funsies, enjoy this video…the song signed. It’s fabulous. 😀

6. The Mustard – Cast – Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Once More with Feeling Soundtrack So this isn’t even really a full song, but yes, I have the Buffy musical soundtrack. And I like it. Not sorry. 😛
7. We Shall Never Surrender – Clocks & Clouds – Life Beyond Reason Huh, another Clocks & Clouds. Love this one too. 😀
8. Deee-Lite – Groove is in the Heart – The Very Best of Deee-Lite Oh man, I can feel the judgement already. Go ahead, I can take it.
9. The Lighthouse’s Tale – Nickel Creek – Nickel Creek One of my favorite songs. Love Nickel Creek and love Chris Thile on the mandolin…
10. Hey There Delilah – Plain White T’s – All That We Needed Not much to say about this one. Like the song. LOL 🙂
And that’s it. First 10 songs on shuffle. Check out which songs Bron and Leigh came up with!

Wednesday Randomness: My Sad Purse Post *pout*

Happy Wednesday, everyone. So this week, Bronwyn, Leigh and I are sharing what’s in our purse or bag. So I grab my purse, thinking this isn’t going to be the most entertaining post. Let’s face it, the contents of my purse are much more amusing when I’m on a trip or something. Or when I had little kids there were always interesting things finding their way into my purse.

So I sit down and start pulling stuff out… And seriously, this is what I find:

As boring as I feared my purse-sharing would be, dear friends, this isn’t what I expected to find.
Where is my lip balm, my gum, my small notebook, my hand sanitizer? Where????? I will tell you… I have 4 teenagers (well 3, one is a preteen, but CLOSE ENOUGH) who are THIEVES!!!!
So this is what I’m left with. My wallet, pens, and TWO FREAKING PENNIES! Thank you, children, for leaving me two cents.
My keys are normally in my purse, but hubby was using my car so… Although, when he got back and popped the keys back in my purse, he added a little something extra:

And, of course, I would have my phone in there as well, but was using it to take the pics. So I swiped my son’s phone, so I could show you the gorgeous phone cover I now have thanks to Bron! She’s the best.
Isn’t it pretty???
So that’s it for me and my purse. LOL I’m positive Bron’s post and Leigh’s post will be far more fun. LOL

Wednesday Randomness: Take Me Away!

For Wednesday Bloggin’ this week, Bronwyn, Leigh and I are listing five place we’d like to visit. Now, I’m keeping things pretty general with this one, because if I listed every specific thing I’d like to visit and see before I die… Well, I don’t think anyone would read a blogpost that long!

So here goes nothing…

This is the big one; the destination on the top of my wish list.My entire life I’ve wanted to visit Ireland. I don’t know why, but I’ve always felt a pull. I hope one day to go. I could spend hours exploring, take hundreds of pictures, drink many pints of beer. It’d be heaven. 🙂 Just look at the gorgeousness…

Grand Canyon

I’d have thought by now, the Grand Canyon would have been crossed off my bucket list, but no such luck. I really hope this one happens soon. It is just beautiful, isn’t it? I just want to soak it all in.

Always wanted to visit Italy, and Rome in particular. The architecture fascinates me. And the food…and THE WINE. Oh, I think I could spend a lot of time in this country and be just fine. 🙂

I think a trip to a vineyard is a must, don’t you?

I’ve had family live in Alaska and have always wanted to visit. To see the mountains and vastness of it all. Growing up in Upper Michigan, I’ve had the joy of seeing Northern Lights but I can only imagine how spectacular they’d be in Alaska. Maybe one day…

Soon, I’ll be able to cross this one off my list! 🙂 I’ll be taking a trip in the fall to England and I cannot wait. (Seriously, I’m so excited I could almost pee my pants!) I have so many things I want to see, and I know I won’t be able to see them all. So I’m still working on my absolute must see list. One thing I know that is on there? The Globe Theatre – Yeah, I’m a dork. I totally know that and am fine with it.
The Globe

And that’s it fr
om me this week. 🙂 Be sure to check out Bron’s post and Leigh’s post.

What about you? Where have you always wanted to go?

Wednesday Randomness: I Wanna Do That!!

Happy Wednesday!!! As you know, Bronwyn Green and I have been tandem blogging on Wednesdays. This week, I want to say welcome to Leigh Jones, who is going to join us on our Wednesday bloggin’ party. 🙂

This week we decided to blog on three things we’d like to learn how to do. Number one on my list, at the moment is….

Basic Home Repairs

I have no desire to take care of everything in the house, but to be able to deal with those those things that come up every so often. Or in my case, every single stinking time my husband goes out of town. He’s currently out of the country, and I ended up with water all of the laundry room floor. The washer is losing water, and I cannot for the life of me figure out where it’s coming from. And, lets’ be honest, even if I did, I’d be clueless as to how to fix it. So I’d like to know how to deal with the basic household repairs–leaky faucets and the like–and not have to call the hubby or my dad to get over-the-phone instructions to fix something. (And major props to them for being awesome and patient with me when I do call on them for something!)

Learn to Knit Something OTHER Than a Rectangle!

I can knit a few basic things–a scarf, a blanket, a shawl (as long as it’s rectangular, mind you!), but I would love to be able to knit something more complex, and let’s face it, much more awesome. I see pics and patterns for things to knit and yearn to be able to do it. Something like this…

Learn to Cook Healthy but GOOD Food

I actually really enjoy cooking, and I’m not too shabby at it. However, I’m trying to be healthier and lose some weight. I’m not so good at the cooking light thing. Most of the things I’m good at cooking require lots of butter, cream, sugar…and pretty much anything else that I (and my family!) should only eat in moderation. Now, I’ve attempted some healthier cooking and I didn’t completely fail (though there were some failures in there, let me tell you!), but I don’t want to just eat the basic baked/grilled chicken or fish, grilled or sauteed veggies, salads up the wazoo… I’d love to learn to cook a variety of healthy, delicious food. Because, seriously, it needs to taste GOOD. And the healthier I eat, the more wine I can indulge with later, right? 😉

And that’s it from me. I’m sure I could come up with more things I’d like to learn, but honestly, I tried to come up with three things I had a CHANCE of learning in the near future. Realistic goals and all that.

What are some things you’d like to learn to do?

Make sure you go and check out Bron’s Post and Leigh’s Post and see what THEY want to learn how to do. 🙂

Wednesday Randomness: Apps I Love and/or Can’t Live Without

This week, for our tandem post, Bronwyn and I decided to blog about the apps we love and/or can’t live without. Check out Bron’s post here.

I don’t have anything amazing as far as apps go, really. But there are some that I use ALL THE TIME.

Don’t need to say much more than that, yeah? Always have to have email!

Social Media
Yet more ways to be constantly connected. 🙂 These are the best for when I’m waiting for kids to finish an activity or something. Especially when I don’t know how long it will be and I don’t want to start reading a book just to have to stop when the kid(s) climb in the car.
Tumblr – Ah, the place I can fangurl it up with my people. 🙂
Twitter & Facebook – You never know when you need to tweet/post something. LOL And I can scroll through my feed/wall any time I want.
Pinterest – This is my favorite for small periods of time. Just scrolling through pretty pics….yay.
Heath & Fitness

In my attempt to be healthier and get in shape, I use several apps.
My Fitness Pal – Love, love, love this app. It’s what I use to track my food intake. The best part is I can just scan barcodes to input my food. Honestly, anything that makes it easier is a keeper for me.
Pink Pad – This is a girl app. Won’t go into too much detail. LOL Let’s just say, I am horrible at keeping track of the time of the month. This apps helps me know exactly what is happening so I don’t get caught unawares – which totally sucks.
Runtastic PRO – I will say upfront, I DO NOT RUN. That’s just crazy talk. The hubby and the kids run (seriously, hubby did a marathon – INSANE); I do not. BUT I do walk. And it will track my distance and time.
BodyMedia FIT– I have a BodyMedia armband that tracks calories burned, hours slept, steps taken etc. It’s linked to my My Fitness Pal account so my calorie intake goal for the day is adjusted automatically for me. I can look at the app and know how far I’m off of my targets for the day. I use this one A LOT.
These are for fun, of course. Looking up videos on YouTube (the majority of which may or may not be fan made Merthur videos 😉 ), reading books on Nook and Kindle. I prefer to read on my iPad, but I have all the apps I talked about on both my phone and tablet so it all works out. 🙂
I am NOT good at explaining games, so I won’t even attempt to do so here. But I’ll let you know the few games I play regularly and don’t bore the crap out of me. LOL My phone used to be FULL of games but then the kids got their own smartphones and no longer use mine. 😀
Temple Run…just fun.
Hand & Foot – A card game. I enjoy it.
Words with Friends.

And that’s it, really.

Any apps you can’t live without? Or just love?

Wednesday Randomness: My Dream Home

So, to encourage each other to blog more regularly, the fabulous Bronwyn Green and I are going to be doing a bit of tandem blogging. This week, we decided to post about our dream house. You can check out Bron’s post here.

Normally, I’d say my dream house is on the shore of Lake Superior. At this exact moment of time, I will not say that, not with how this winter is going. So instead I’m going to focus on what I’d love to have INSIDE my dream house.

The Living Room – would KILL for those windows.

Bathroom….I’ve always had small bathrooms. I would adore one with ROOM and a big tub to soak in. *sigh*

The Bedrooms…

Isn’t that window seat the perfect place to curl up with a book??

I had more pictures stored but can’t access them. *Pout* But that’s okay. I think this gives you an idea of what I like, yeah? Rustic, with modern convenience…and lots of room. 🙂 Not asking too much, right?
